Nokia digibox with Linux operating system / Linux digiboksi / TUXBOX

My favourite toys are DVB2000 equipped dbox1 (with Finnish Salcomp NTD tuner, has been running 8 years), Nokia dbox2 for DVB-C
and Skystar2 for satellite (was used with dbox1 for diy ech*lon project). Still waiting newer Dreambox model 7025 or maybe going to
choose Triple Dragon or Reelbox.

DIY ech*lon? Well, if someone uses satellite internet.. then better to use VPN too, or at least PGP for emails. Normally internet streams
(backbones/gateways/direct to home) are NOT encrypted (just TCP/IP over DVB). This problem was reported to satellite internet operators 5
years ago by several hobbiests. What those companies, like Tiscali, did? Nothing. Don't believe? Catch stream and look closer
with hex-editor.

But now more about this one:



Nokia dbox2 is a successor of dbox1, which became real cultbox because it could run "DVB2000 firmware" written by Uli Hermann, has
SCSI-bus and first models got even autosymbolrate tuner (receiver locks to signals without need to know exact SR, FEC and frequency).
Nokia dbox1 is almost similar like Nokia Mediamaster 9500, which was marketed for Benelux, Scandinavia and Italy (with Irdeto).
Nokia dbox1 was just for german markets (also Austria) with Betacrypt conditional access.

Nokia dbox2 is available in two models, for DVB-S (satellite) and DVB-C (cable). Officially is sold just in Germany, and just for German
Premiere pay-tv -package. Dbox2 was/is manufactured also by Philips and Sagem. It has lan-connection instead of SCSI.

If you buy dbox2 directly from paytv -operator, it doesn't have Linux OS, you must modify receiver yourself..

Who can control MS Windows computer from Nokia digibox? I can with a VNC client ported to digibox.
Here some pictures. Mouse can be moved by using up/down/left/right -buttons from dbox remote control.
Blue button opens virtual keyboard :) .. It's just a simple plugin.

Jos dbox2:ssa on premieren/betan firmware (esim. Betanova 2.XX), niin lue muutamaan kertaan TUXBOX -sivujen how to (Mutta allekirjoittanut ei ota
mitään vastuuta siitä mikä on boksisi tila jos näitä ohjeita noudatat). Ota talteen boksissa olevan firmware (bootmanager). Jos boksissa on jo
linux, niin ota varmuuden vuoksi ensin ucodes hakemiston tiedostot talteen (esim. ftp:llä), /var/tuxbox/ucodes

Dream Multimedia. Dreambox 500, 5652 ja 7000 are satellite receivers (DVB-S). Not for cable (DVB-C) or terrestrial (DVB-T) television. DVB-T -model 500-T will be available in Germany maybe Q4/2004. Before that will appear DM 7020-S with better tuner (than 7000).
Triple Dragon (by Uli Hermann) is just another Linux-STB -project. Already in german shops, price 449€ (8/2004)
